Are you proud of your home and always welcome your friends and family members in, whether planned or not? If the answer is yes, then make sure you think ahead and prepare so there won't be any awkward scenarios or nasty surprises.
You never know :)
1. Greet at the door
This seems obvious, but it is important to make the guest(s) feel welcomed. Give a warm smile, maybe a hug and open your arms wide and show your palms. Make a small conversation and your family member can quickly prepare the living room or do some last minute cleaning up.
2. Prepare drinks and let the conversation flow
Even if you are out of snacks, prepare some kind of refreshment - hot or cold drink to your guests. Invite them into the living room and settle them down comfortably. Talk about the room decor, show yours collectibles that you display and pictures of recent family trips or events which make an excellent conversation starter.
3. Keep your stuff away and offer seat and comfort
Sometimes when you are too comfortable at home, you leave small things around which might be unsightly or inappropriate. Therefore, having ottomans in the living room is very helpful for you to immediately chuck those items away. Plus, the double as seats so you do not have to worry about leaving no seats for a bigger crowd. You can also put drinks onto them like a small coffee stand.
